Customer Critiques
I have been applying this lens with a preproduction loaner NEX-C3. Review on that camera to come soon...
This lens is in a lot of strategies a tour de force, showing that a excellent good quality lens and sensor package can be made little. Most casual shooter will probably head for the 18-55mm zoom, but this 16mm lens (crop aspect is 1.5, so it's a 24mm equivalent in 35mm land) would make a good carry lens for a sort of retro-rangefinder camera. This could get you all sorts of street shots with a especially pocketable camera, and enough resolution to crop to the image you certainly wanted. With the NEX-C3, low light levels weren't a challenge, and that would go nicely with this low profile lens and not implementing the flash.
Facts: 49mm filter thread
Just received this lens for Christmas and it appears to be a beneficial high quality item. I have not run any important tests on it or compared results with my 18-55mm zoom or my 18-200mm zoom. It is a nice compact size and weight, a good all about lens if you like wide angle shooting. This lens would be the equivalent of a 24mm on a 35mm camera.
While an f2.eight is not specifically quickly, it is fine on the NEX due to the fact the camera can deal with slow speed shots in other ways. For true wide angle shooters, Sony's Fish-Eye adapter will attach to this lens as nicely as the 18-55mm.
