just got this product and was a bit hessitant when i ordered it as it was a "knock off" of the LCDVF. Surprisingly, it is a awesome product. It fits my NEX-3 perfectly. The magnification is also fantastic and the entire screen is viewable through the eye peice. I wear glasses and dont have any concerns with it. I do wish the magnets were a stronger hold to the metal frame and wished it came with a lanyard attached to the hood like the LCDVF but for the price tag i cannot complain. General revenue well spent!
There are not too numerous LCDVF in the 16:9 format and this a single is reasonable and adapted to the Nex5 screen but have limitations.
At $20, it does not have diopter adjustment and your eye is three" away from the screen. I wear progressive eyeglasses and have to take them off.
The magnetic frame is attached to the camera tripod socket. Despite the fact that it does offer you with an additional tripod socket, it prevents you from tilting the screen. 1-You can circumvent this by sawing off the tripod element and gluing the magnetic frame to your $5 LCD protector (not to the LCD itself).
The magnet in this metal frame is quite weak. Constantly lift your camera by the physique or the attached lens. If you lift it by the LCDVF, it will detached itself and your camera will drop! two-You can prevent this by gluing the VF to the frame this time but in order to get rid of it you are going to have to unscrew the tripod component.
If you do 1- and -2 the VF will be permanently attached to your screen. So it is your option to 'improve' it either with tilting OR firmly attached feature,
This VF does not have any magnification, you still have to use the 7x-14x function on the camera.
But for the value, it does the job. I takes much more space in your bag than a "clearview loupe" but works improved outdoor in vibrant daylight. I use this for video and the clearview for stills.
